General

What is PolyCore?

PolyCore is a textile technology company. We provide high-performance textiles for bags and backpacks that have a lower environmental impact than common alternatives. We specialize in water-borne polyurethane coatings that we apply to post-consumer recycled nylon and polyester.

Where are your facilities located?

PolyCore’s lab and facilities are located in Taiwan and our office is in California. Our US team collaborates remotely.

Do you provide samples or testing?

Yes, we can provide samples of our stock materials. We can also create custom samples of your desired material and provide comprehensive test results for tear strength, abrasion resistance, hydrostatic resistance, and more.

What is a PU Coating?

PU stands for polyurethane- a synthetic material that is used in thousands of products. PU coating is applied to fabrics in a thin layer in order to protect and strengthen the material. It enhances the fabric by making it durable and water-resistant. Polyurethane coatings are extremely common on bags, backpacks, luggage, tents, and more.

Why is water-based PU better?

Water-based PU (WPU) is comprised of 70% water. Standard PU coatings are comprised of 70% solvent base. When PU coating is applied to a textile, the liquid base evaporates into the air. PolyCore’s coating technique only releases water vapor, while most PUs release Volatile Organic Compounds as the solvent dries. VOCs are detrimental to human and environmental health. The average VOC is 11 times more potent than CO2 in terms of global warming.

How is Eco-X different from Eco-Coating?

Eco-X is the same water-based PU as Eco-Coating, however, it has been fortified with microscopic carbon nanotubes. These nanotubes make the coating even stronger, increasing the tear strength as well as the abrasion resistance.

How is Eco-Shield different from your other coatings?

Eco-Shield is a thicker, stiffer version of Eco-Coating. It was designed to be a tougher and more sustainable replacement for TPU laminates.

Are your coatings water resistant?

Yes, our coatings can reach up to 25,000mm water resistance.

Are you coatings PFAS free?

Yes, we do not use any Per- or polyfluoroalkyl substances in our coating. We are currently working with OIA’s Clean Materials and Chemistry Coalition to ensure we have the adequate testing done to prove this.

Are your coatings bluesign certified?

Our chemicals are Buesign certified. You can find them on the bluesign FINDER positive chemicals list under PolyCore’s name.
