Frequently Asked Questions

This page is here to help you understand how PolyCore Technologies work, what makes our coatings different, and how you can integrate them into your supply chains.

Whether you’re a brand, a mill, or simply curious about the science behind waterborne coatings, you’ll find answers to our most common questions below. If you have any further questions, please reach out below!

What is PolyCore?

PolyCore Solutions is a textile technology company that specializes in waterborne polymer coatings. We aim to phase out harmful solvent-based textile coatings without sacrificing performance. Our waterborne coatings enhance abrasion resistance, waterproofing, and tear strength for technical fabrics used in backpacks, luggage, and gear.

How is PolyCore different from traditional PU coatings?

Our coatings use water rather than chemical solvents as their carrier.

Which fabrics work best with PolyCore coatings?

Our coatings are compatible with most textiles used in bags, packs, and luggage, including polyester, nylon, and cotton.

How is Eco-Shield different from Eco-Coating?

Eco-Shield uses the same waterborne PU as Eco-Coating but is applied to the face of the fabric, making it thicker and stiffer. It offers a premium aesthetic and performs as a strong alternative to TPU, hypalon, PVC, and other materials.

How is ReCirX² different from your other coatings?

ReCirX² (pronounced Re Circ) is our waterborne PET coating that combines outstanding durability with full recyclability. It creates a monomaterial on polyester fabrics that can be completely recycled, closing the loop for a truly circular product story.

Are your coatings water resistant?

Yes. PU coatings reach up to 10,000mm hydrostatic resistance, while PET coatings can reach up to 3,000mm.

Are your coatings breathable?

No. The waterborne application process is designed for protection and durability, which limits breathability.

Are your coatings PFAS free?

Absolutely. We do not use any per- or polyfluoroalkyl substances. We have tested our products through a 3rd party using EN 14582.

Are your coatings bluesign® certified?

All our coatings meet the bluesign® RSL, and our main components are listed on the bluesign® FINDER positive chemicals list.

Where are your facilities located?

Our lab and production are in Taiwan, and our head office is in California. Our US team collaborates remotely to support brands and partners globally.

Do you have nominated mills who can use PolyCore coatings?

Yes, please contact us for details. At this time, our nominated mills are in Taiwan.

Do you provide samples or testing?

Yes. We can provide stock samples or create custom samples of your chosen fabric, along with detailed testing for abrasion, tear strength, hydrostatic resistance, and more.

Can PolyCore coatings be customized?

Yes. We develop custom formulations to meet brand-specific goals, including texture, finish, waterproof rating, and overall durability.

Can your coatings be applied at any facility?

Yes, though application typically requires specialized training and sometimes updated equipment. We collaborate with textile mills to ensure consistent results and welcome new supply chain partners.

Does PolyCore support co-branding or marketing?

Absolutely. We help brands communicate material innovation through:

Co-branded hangtags and product labels

Technical storytelling support for product launches

Sustainability messaging that connects performance with responsibility

Which fabrics can be fully recycled with PolyCore coatings?

Our ReCirX² coating is designed for polyester fabrics, forming a monomaterial that can be fully recycled at the end of its lifecycle, supporting a true circular economy.

How do PolyCore coatings reduce environmental impact?

By replacing solvent-based coatings with waterborne alternatives, we eliminate VOC emissions, PFAS, and other harmful chemicals, all while maintaining top-tier performance for your products.
